Normanville Central
The Jelfs Family businesses started in the Yankalilla District when John Jelfs purchased the chemist shop at Yankalilla in 1967. The business had had only two proprietors since 1946.

John purchased the old '4 Square' store at Normanville in 1981, which had been converted from a house many years before and was involved in the development of the Normanville Shopping Centre in 1985. The old store made way for the shopping centre in a pre-Christmas rush and without closing for even a day.

The family business has operated the modern supermarket and chemist shop from that time, gathering up the Newsagency, Post Office and Lotto Agency, also in the shopping centre, during the early 1990's.

The Yankalilla Newsletter was started back in 1970, when a local Church Minister of the time suggested to John he produce a news sheet for the town. Now called the Yankalilla News, it has been produced by John's son, Paul Jelfs, since 1988. The monthly magazine now covers the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula with a circulation of about 4500.

Today the business is comprised of:

  • John Jelfs Normanville Chemist
  • Normanville Foodland Supermarket
  • Jelfs Normanville Newsagency
  • Normanville Licenced Post Office and Lotto Agency
  • The Yankalilla News.

The Jelfs Family businesses are regular sponsors of local clubs and charity organisations and are committed to helping improve the local community that they are a part of.
